Abstract | The flood plain of the Rio Grande in southern New Mexico and Texas near El Paso is flanked by an ascending sequence of geomorphic surfaces graded to successively higher and older flood-plain positions of the ancestral river. These valley-border surfaces represent major cycles of erosion, accompanied by lesser amounts of backfilling, and they are in turn inset below remnants of an early (?) to mid-Pleistocene complex of basin-filled surfaces. |
