Abstract | Nest density and nesting success of Xylocopa californica arizonensis is primarily determined by nest substrate availability and pollen and nectar availability. X. californica arizonensis appears to primarily depend on pollen from Larrea tridentata or Prosopis spp. for larval food. Principal predators and parasites are a little importance in determining nesting success. Nest competitors and nest inquilines are common but do not appear to have a limiting effect on nesting success. |
