AbstractThis study reports the results of a manipulation experiment conducted over a 5-year period in southcentral New Mexico designed to test the common hypothesis of ecological competitiveness of parthenogenetic Cnemidophorus.... The explanation for the demonstrated failure of Cnemidophorus tesselatus to respond to the experimental manipulation reported here may be more fundamentally related to its genetic character than to its ecological position relative to C. tigris.
