In May and June of 1977, following the 13th International Grassland Congress in Leipzig, East Germany (German Democratic Republic), we toured several of the country's agricultural centers. We visited state and cooperative farms, research centers, and schools for grassland and animal management. English-speaking guides gave us information about East Germany farming, forestry, livestock, pasture and forage, and wildlife and fish. In this paper we present a digest of that information.
