AbstractThis field study of avian mobbing behavior has demonstrated a higher seasonality of the mobbing response than that found in other studies. The response is limited to the breeding season, suggesting that mobbing is primarily a nest defense. The use of several different predators as stimulus objects demonstrated a marked difference in the level and kind of response received by different predators. The level of the response is directly correlated with the degree of danger posed by the predator, as shown by food habits.
