AbstractM. porteri is an important grazing plant in southern desert lands. The association with L. tridentata is of special intrest to range management, as it has been postulated that M. porteri competes with L. tridentata. The objective of this study was to determine the response of these two species, utilizing structural data...In 1978 at the three phenological stages, boot, flower and dormancy, 13 variables were measured. In 1979, 19 variables were measured at the vegetative, boot, and flowering phenological stages of M.porteri, each stage had four groups of clipping treatments, initiated in 1978. Through mulitvariate discriminant anlaysis the more important variables were selected, which assisted to classify the phenological stages of 1978 and, for 1979 variables, in the treatment indentification on the basis of morphometric measurements of M.porteri.
