AbstractReproductive data were obtained from specimens of Dipodomys ordii and Dipodomys merriami taken in southern New Mexico form October, 1960, through September, 1961. The reproductive cycles of the males and females of both species were worked out. The males of D. ordii were found to be sexually active in all months except November and the females bred in three periods: December and January, March through May and September. The males of D. merriami were sexually active all year and the females bread from January through August.D. ordii is compared to D. merriami in terms of reproduction and the possible ecological divergence is discussed. The former breeds cyclically during the breeding season and having a larger embryo number, while the latter breeds continuously during the breeding season and having a smaller embryo number.
