AbstractIn 1966 New Mexico State University initiated a study to evaluate the performance of Brangus and Hereford cows in two distinct environments: Fort Stanton, a hilly grama grass environment, and the College Ranch, a desert grassland environment; and the performance of their straightbred and reciprocally crossbred steer calves in feedlot and carcass traits. The overall correlations between traits were: feed efficiency and average daily gain, r= -.58; feed efficiency and feed consumption, r= +.22; average daily gain and feed consumption, r= +.66.
