AbstractSeasonal diets of black-tailed jackrabbit (Lepus Californicus) and dietary overlap between black-tailed jackrabbits and cattle were studied from May 1984 to May 1985 in three vegetation types in southwestern New Mexico. A microhistological technique was used to identify botanical composition of fecal samples....Although jackrabbit and cattle ate some of the same species, they did not eat them in similar proportions. Food overlap was slight during winter, and 36% in spring. The diet overlap bwtween these animals was greater during early spring when both animal species preferred green forage.
