AbstractFour methods are being used in controlling mesquite at the Jornada Experimental Range: handgrubbing, using fenuron pelleta, ground spraying and aerial spraying. Handgrubbing sparse stands of small mesquite is the most economical method of control, but the root must be completely severed below the budding zone (about 4 to 6 inches below the surface of the ground) and close supervision of labor must be maintained.
