Abstract | This paper evaluates the use of high resolution laser altimeter data for estimating the effective aerodynamic roughness in a coppice dune area. In this landscape the total drag is primarily due to the large scale obstacles with a secondary contribution of the interdunal areas. For the area under study, wind profiles were available up to a height of 10 meters, accounting for a fetch of approximately 100 m. Menenti and Ritchie (1994) evaluated the use of laser altimeter data for calculating the aerodynamic roughness for the local scale. The current paper extends their research and derives the effective roughness including local topography. |
